A4 vs Letter — the classic mismatch
A4 (210×297 mm) is slightly narrower and taller than US Letter (8.5×11 in). Printing one on the other clips margins or shrinks unpredictably. Rescaling the PDF itself to the target size gives predictable output on any printer, and Fit mode guarantees nothing is distorted.
Resize before merging mixed documents
